§ Paintings · Since 2002

A way of thinking in colour.

Mostly abstract pieces inspired by energy, movement, and balance. A way to work through ideas that do not fit into frameworks.

As a child I found great joy in drawing and painting. As life moved on my focus shifted to studies and science, and art took a back seat, though it never went away. I kept it alive through galleries and exhibitions on travels abroad.

In 2002, my husband and I moved into a flat with high ceilings, and I wanted a large painting for one of the walls. We could not afford one. My husband joked that if I had such a clear idea of what I wanted, I should just make it myself.

He built me a large canvas. I collected leftover oil paints from our own and friends' home projects, we covered the floors and the walls, and I got to work. Over several weeks I made Differences, the largest painting I have ever done. That experience started something that has not stopped since.

I find it hard to make the time and the mental space to paint, but when I do, it is meditative and therapeutic.
